Golden Cap is a hill and a cliff situated on the Jurassic Coast between Bridport and Charmouth in Dorset. Standing at 191 metres, it is the highest point on the South Coast of Great Britain. We are extremely lucky to live somewhere where we are able to explore our coastline, see amazing views and have the amazing National Trust keep these places available for people to walk.

The Walk
Parking – Seatown Car park – £3
Distance – 2.37 miles
Ascent – 679 ft

- Start at Seatown Car park, walk up the road just past the caravan park and the cottages, on the left hand side you will see a sign to join the South West Coast Path. You want to follow the signs for Golden Cap.
- Walk through the corpse to the first kissing gate and across the field. Head up the steps through the heathland on the seaward side.
- Continue to follow the South West Coast Path signs for Golden Cap. Go through the next kissing gate and across the next field.
- The next bit is a steep incline to head over Golden Cap. Head up the steep incline, through the kissing gate at the top and proceed to follow the zig zag steps to the summit of the hill.
- Take time to have a rest, take in the views and reflect on the fact you actually made it to the top.
- Retrace your foot steps back to The Anchor Inn for a well deserved beverage.

This is a part of the South West Coast Path I’ve never done and I’m pleased I can actually say I have now. Even though it was difficult and I’m not as fit as I used to be, I still made it to the top and the breath-taking view were well worth it, even though it was a misty day. It’s a perfect place to take in our beautiful coastline and the countryside of Dorset alike.
