Yesterday I attended the Dorset Knob Throwing and Good Festival, held this year at Kingston Maurward.
A lot of people I know have never heard of a Dorset Knob and when Throwing is chucked into the equation then a lot of innuendos start to come to mind. For those of you who know what a Dorset Knob is then I’ll try not to boar you to much, for those of you who don’t it is a hard dry savoury biscuit which were a farmers staple. Either eaten with tea and sugar poured over and just with some cheese and butter.
I couldnt tell you when the tradition of Dorset Knob Throwing started but I do know it used to he held in a little village in North Forset called Cattistock on the first Sunday of May. Since 2017 the tradition has moved onto Kingston Maurward.
It was a great day out involving lots of food, good gin and cider and throwing of some knobs. I tried my first Dorset Knob with some cheese and must say if you haven’t tried one you must! They kind of remind me of a giant crouton and go perfectly with Dorset Blue Vinny.
A great day out!!!
