Dorset Tea’s 10th Birthday

*AD Gifted / Press Event*

On Thursday this is week I got invited to attend Dorset Tea’s 10th Birthday celebration at The Haven Hotel, Sandbanks, which was to include a presentation and tea inspired cocktails with Conker Spirit. I was also excited to finally meet the lovely Ginette and put a name to a face, after many Instagram messages and emails.

Myself and two friends attend the evening and on arrival was offered some punch and some canapès while we waited for others to arrive.

Ginette took a short presentation where I learnt a few new things that I did not know about the company.

About Dorset Tea
Dorset Tea started up in 2009 at Wimborne Food Market. Exactly 10 years this week. The founder, Keith Spicer, had been blending teas in the Bournemouth area since 1934 and Dorset Tea was started to celebrate his work and the natural beauty that Dirset has to offer.
Both Jimmy Medhora and Tony Warr have done an excellent job in blending the Dorset Tea Sunshine Blend (which was known as the Golden Blend). I never really read the box to find out what tea is used in the tea bags, and fine the this tea in particular is one of my favourites. It wasn’t until attending this event that I now know why. I can tell you want to know why now too!! That is because it contains Kenyan, Rwandan and Assam teas, creating a nice strong blend. If your like me and like a strong, stand your spoon up in it kind of cuppa, then your enjoy this one!!
Along with their Sunshine blend they also offer a wide range of herbal, green and fruit teas, some of which can now be found in biodegradable pyramid teabags.

Ginette was extremely excited to announce that as of November 2019 (next month) all of Dorset Teas teabags will be plastic free. For those of you who dont know, 2% of every teabag you use at home contains polypropylene which is used to seal teabags and stop them splitting. This is a none biodegradable product and takes years to degrade.

Our evening ended with two very different cocktails by Conkers Spirit. One made using Dorset Teas Fruit Punch and Conkers Port Barrel Gin, the other with Dorset Teas Sunshine Blend, Conkers Gin and Mint. My favourite had to be the first one, but me being me never got the name of either cocktail. So if there is anyone reading this who knows the names… please leave a comment.

We also got presented with a box of goodies on leaving which included balloons, tea samples, a box of Sunshine Blend, miniture Conkers Cold Brew and a Dorset Tea Cocktail and Ice Tea recipe book.

It was a privilege to go to the event and be able to share with you a bit more about our locally blended tea. A true Dorset company with a true community vibe.
