Have any of you heard of the new massage space coming to Wareham?
Did you say NO? Well as of this week Wareham now has somewhere you can relax and have a massage in a very chilled out little part of the town.
The Little Shop of Calm is based in what used to be the old Binocular shop along West Street. There are currently two posters on the window so you will find it easily. I was lucky enough to meet Sam the owner and learn some more about what her Little Shop of Calm entitles.
Sam spent years as a teacher and decided to have a carer change and try out massage. She went through training quite quickly and from talking to her has incredible knowledge of different massage practices. In the hour or so I spent with Sam I learnt so much about what different massage types can help the body in different ways. It’s also given me more of an insight as to why after a massage I feel so relaxed and pain free, but then the next day back to the 9-5 and all that disappears.
The shop itself is a little quaint place, full of vintage style furniture, and a chilled out vibe and a beautifulnplace to relax. A few extra touches are required to make it that perfect place, but thats the same with any new business just starting up.
The shop is open Monday to Sunday, where there will be the option to book treatments for the morning or the evening and the middle of the day is more of a drop in, a place to chat and have a cuppa or gind out more about with there is on offer to help you. Please note that Sunday’s may only be for pre-booked treatments at this time.
There are several treatments that Sam offers including Warm Bamboo and Hot Stones. I had never heard of a Warm Bamboo massage until now, but the bamboo holds heat for longer than hot stones, meaning there is no direct shock when touching a clients body. The other treatment that stood out to me was the myofascial massage. For those of you that don’t understand what that is, just like I didn’t, it’s a type of massges that helps to release the tension in your fascia. Fascia is the webbing or sheet that attaches, stabilises, encloses and seperates muscles and other organs around the body.
Sam also offers a Deep Oscillation Therapy using a physio pod, thai foot massage and Thai Foot Massage. I was lucky enough to try out the Physio Pod which helps to break down knots and tension in the body. It’s also known to be helpful on the off for those who have had knee or hip operations to aid quick recovery. The pod itself is small and you are asked to hold a cable with a metal end to it. On touching the metal and Sam placing a gloved finger on my neck you can feel a slight vibration sense around the area. Something I’d be willing to try on the tension in my neck from sitting at a desk all day.
All in all I think this Little Shop of Calm will do great in Wareham. The prices are very reasonable and I’m sure there is a time for everyone, evening those working 9-5. I love the aspect of getting the community involved and holding that daily time to have a break and cuppa or chat. It’s nice to see someone so happy in what they do and want to share what different masages could help people in different ways, something you don’t really get very often. I’m excited to see what comes of this little place and hope that if your near Wareham you pop by.
