In know way did I ever think I’d be a Gin drinker. My earliest memories of Gin where seeing bottles of Gordon’s in pubs and clubs, but it’s was one of those drinks you never chose to have and neither did any of my friends.
It wasn’t until 2015 during a Europe Road Trip that sitting in a bar in Brussels I decided I’ll try a Gin and Tonic. It was served in a balloon glass, which at the time was a new experience, alongside a Thomas Henry Tonic and a slice of cucumber and all thoughts of this a posh drink, do people in England drink it differently, went round my head. I couldn’t tell you what Gin I had but that is what changed my outlook on Gin as a whole.
As I started to become more adventurous with trying Gin when out with friends for drinks the only two brands I’d really see apart from Gordon’s was Hendricks and Bombay Sapphire. I’d try to experiment with asking for different mixers or asking for a dash of elderflower cordial. Once more small batch gins started arriving on the shelves I’d make it my mission to try a new one each time and that is how I’ve managed to try 120+ gins in the space of 3 years.
Who knew that Gin would be such a versatile drink that people of all ages now love to drink? With so many different flavours, botanicals and styles I believe there is a gin out there for everyone. There is one saying that I hear a lot “I never used to like Gin, but I like this one” and that is just what the Gin industry have set out to do and I’m excited to share it with you all.
