Dalston drinks have been my go to soft drink for a while now. Made using sparkling water, a natural flavour and no refined sugar. I first came across them when ordering a soft drink in Wetherspoons as you do when you order a meal deal. It’s not everyday you come across a fizzy rhubarb drink and that’s when I thought, ‘Oh that’ll go nicely with a gin”.
The business was started in an East London nightclub back in 2012. While experimenting with recipes and blending their own style of fizz with local sourced produce from the markets, the first drinks were made by hand. These days it’s now done in bigger premises and since 2019 and the launch of their no refined sugar range of soda, these guys are doing well!
With five different Sodas to choose from these guys have made something that’s great for drinking on it’s own for for using as a mixer. With Fizzy Rhubarb, Cherryade, Lemonade, Ginger Beer and Fizzy Elderflower, it’s be no surprise to you what my top 3 are. So here is the low down.
Fizzy Rhubarb – This is my favourite of all. Refreshing on it’s own, but even better paired with a gin. I normally go with a Gin with ginger or some sort of spice in the botanicals or just a Rhubarb and Ginger Gin like Edinburgh Gin or Whitley Neil.
Cherryade – It’s not like any Cherryade your be used to. It’s richer in colour, and has that proper fresh cherry taste. Not to sharp, but not sweet that it leaves your teeth feeling weird. I like this one on it’s own too, but if you want to be adventurous I use a pink gin or anything Gin you feel may go well with it.
Fizzy Elderflower – Now this one is in my top 3, but it’s not one I can drink on it’s own. So straight from the can is a no go for me. I love this one with something simple like Hendricks, but any gin with elderflower in the botanicals would go well. If your like me and don’t like the elderflower too over powering, I like to add a little cloudy apple juice.
These are my bit of goodness on a Gin evening or just a nice change to a can of sugary fizz
