The Whimsical Forager

*AD Gifted/PR Item*

Liqueurs can be one of those hit of miss drinks for me. Some are way too sweet, some just don’t hit the spot and some are made for sipping over ice. There are a few I’ve tried and really enjoyed and a few I’d happily not pick up again. The Whimsical Forager definitely ticks all the right boxes for a liqueur in my eyes!

The Whimsical Forager are a liqueur company which is curated in Dorset, but crafted and distilled in Cornwall. So take two of the best South Coast counties and you’re bound to have a great product! They offer a range of three different flavoured liqueurs, all created from Cornish spring water, fresh fruit and botanicals sourced by producers who their own distillery team have identified. As you’ll see below their flavours are based around nature’s larder and inspired by the coastal settings.

Lemon & Basil

A beautifully refreshing citrus tipple is the only why I can describe this. It’s my favourite out of all three of the liqueurs The Whimsical Forager has to offer. With two and a half lemons in every 20cl bottle produced you’d expect that lemon kick, but the way it’s been distilled and the use of basil really tone down that sharpness. It’s great for a summer’s day when you don’t want something to heavy but refreshing on the palate. I mix mine with Fever Tree Mexican Lime Soda which gives a whole new meaning to Lemon & Lime. I’d also use this as palate cleanser for a dinner part.

Orange & Tarragon

This is one I’m still not too sure about and I think it’s because I’m not overly keen on tarragon and as I know it’s in there it not something it’d normally pick up. The tarragon is so subtle however, that I can barely taste it and it tames the orange perfectly. It’s a drink I’d happily have over ice or I’d possibly create a long serve with some soda water and a garnish other than orange to really bring out the flavours. If you have any ideas on garnishes then add them to the comments below, I’d more than happy experiment until I find my favourite!

Nettle, Honey & Ginger

If you like an earthy gin then this one will be perfect. It’s fresh and herbaceous from the nettle, warm from the ginger and a subtle sweetness to balance everything out from the honey.  I like pairing this with fresh pink grapefruit juice and a slice of grapefruit to garnish.

One thing I will say about this South Coast Brand is that they have made some beautiful botanical pairings with some amazing fruits to accompany them. Will I be buying from them again? Of course I will and not just for myself, but for others who I know will love their products as much as me!

All three of these can be brought separately or as a beautiful gift box as pictured below either from their website or through selected small stores across Dorset.
