Namaste Gurkha Review

Last weekend I was kindly taken out by two friends for my birthday to a lovely little Gurkha restaurant in Blandford, Namaste Gurkha. I’ve not had Gurkha food before, but I’d recommend giving it a go! With proper authentic dishes, some perfectly cooked Naan and great beer you can’t really go wrong.

Drinks

Being a traditional Nepalese restaurant, they have the bog stand spirits, soft drinks and beers. All three of us went with the Gurkha Premium Lager, a light a refreshing lager perfect with a curry or spicy food.

Starters

Of course, Papadums are a must, and they came served with mango chutney, mint sauce and a cucumber salad. Scott had Kurum Kurum, which is salt & pepper pork and was beautifully cooked and crispy. I had the Pani Puri, a traditional street food dish with crispy puri balls and potato and chickpea masala. The mixture of crunch and spice where perfect.

Mains

For my main I ordered the Gurkha Thali, typical eaten in households all over Nepal as a hearty dinner. It is served with vegetables, daal, rice, plain naan, papadum and your choice of meat or vegetable curry. I will admit there was so much on the tray that came out that I could finish it all, but everything was amazing. Spicy but full of flavour and you could taste all the different elements to the dish. It’s perfect if you want to give different bits of Nepalese cuisine a try.
Scott ordered the Choilla, charcoal chicken with spices served on a sizzling skillet. Vicki ordered the Nameste Dansak which was amazing in flavour and they both shared some Chicken Chow Chow.

Gurkha Thali

Overall, this place is great, and I’ll be returning at some point in the future. If you love curry or spicy food and want to try something different then I’d definitely recommend trying this place.
