Dicky’s Bar & Brasserie – Review

I recently visited Dicky’s Bar & Brasserie in Southbourne. They serve fresh local produce but with a Dutch twist and since finding out they have Bitterballen on their menu, I have wanted to go!!

Inside is beautifully laid out with a sophisticated vibe and all the staff are extremely welcoming and helpful. With an amazing menu, cocktail list and specials board, there is something for everyone.

The Food

I started with a glass of Prosecco while I decided what to order to eat.

For starters we ordered both the Bitterballen and the Frikendal Sausage Bites which Jack and I shared between us. The Bitterballen came served with mustard mayo. Made with a creamy ragu and perfectly crispy on the outside, they were as good as the ones I had in Amsterdam a few years ago. The Frikendal Sausage Bites came served with chopped up red onion and a curry sauce dip. These were the perfect bite, packed full of flavour and a great start to a meal.

For my main I ordered Moules Frites served with bread & chips. The option to have either classic garlic & white wine or curry sauce was an absolute bonus. I opted for the curry sauce and my god I’m so glad I did. My god, the biggest bowl of steaming hot mussels came out in the most flavoursome curry sauce. It’s safe to say I couldn’t manage all the chips but did use to bread to mop up the sauce.

Would I recommend this place? 100%!! It’s a perfect date night restaurant or a nice place to take friends/family for lunch or dinner. Please note, they do not allow children under the age of 10.
