Things To Do in Porthcawl

Porthcawl is a beautiful seaside town in South Wales. With a beautiful beach, amusements, a little harbour and a little high street there is something for everyone. Being just a stone through away from Trecco Bay it’s the perfect place to visit if staying there, and this is exactly what we did when we visited a few weeks back.

My Top Things to See & Do

The Beach

The beach is a beautiful place to head to for a stroll or to relax and chill for the day. The sea goes out very far during daylight hours but does come in quickly upon sunset. We spent our time walking the 20 minutes from Trecco Bay while playing football.  Beautiful sand and the perfect walk. I can picture this being packed in the summer months though.

Amusements and Seaside Kiosks

Like most seaside towns, Porthcawl has a strip along the promenade with amusements, food kiosks and shops selling buckets and spades. As we had been using the amusements at Trecco Bay we bypassed these, but I did get a cheeky Hot Dog from one of the food kiosks. Nothing bets a cheap frankfurter hot dog with onions and ketchup.

If you love doughnuts then you need to visit this place based over by the harbour. These are the biggest and most beautiful doughnuts I have ever seen in my life. Who Cult are based along the south coast of Wales and have some of the best fluffiest doughnuts I’ve ever tasted and I’m not exaggerating when I say they are as big as my head!

I’m a sucker for a crab sandwich and when I saw these guys do one, I knew we had to go a visit. Based alongside the harbour they have ample sitting both inside and outside. I’d highly recommend their Duo Combo which come with your choice of two small plates and fries and also the crab sandwich. A beautiful place to sit, drink, natter and enjoy some bloody good seafood.

Lastly is a small seafood deli and fishmonger at the start of the high street from the beach end. The lady and gentleman running this shop were so friendly and as we become regulars over the week, remembered us every time and asked how our holiday was going. The reason we came here is so the boys could get their dose of Oysters, and I’ll admit I’m particle to one or two myself. Why can’t all places be like this?

There is so much more to do than the things listed above and I’d love to here if you’ve been and what you loved about Porthcawl.
