On Saturday I spent an evening out for a friends birthday. After deciding that w\ne didn’t want to go for a standard sit down meal we opted for something slightly different.
Renoufs is a Dorset cheese and wine bar based in Westbourne, Southbourne and Wimborne. We booked the Wimborne bar as it was central for Vicki and myself.
On arrival we were seated near the bar an\nd the waitress explained the menus to us as we had never been before.
Vicki and I opted for;
• Rosè Wine flight – three different rosès
• The Gin Flight – pothecary, monkey 47 and Edinburgh Rhubarb and Ginger
• The Ultimate Board – 3 choices or cheese, three choices of meats, grapes, pate, olives, stuffed peppers, pickles, hummus, crackers and bread.
On our Ultimate Board we decided to go with two of the special cheeses; black bomber and red devil, then some camembert. For our meats we chose peppered salami, chorizo and proscuitto.
When our board came out we were told which cheese and meats were which and dug straight in. It was so rustic, pretty and just looked so delicious when it came out on the board. It wasnt by the end!!
Sitting there and eating something like this is a massive deal to me. To think not even a year ago I’d eat anything apart from Catherdral City cheddar, which is still a running joke with one of my best friends. I’m learning to try new things, not be afraid of different food but try it and if I don’t like it who cares.
We finished our cheese and wine/gin evening with a delicious Honeycombe Cheesecake.
I will definitely be returning to Renoufs and trying more new cheeses and wines.
