An evening of cheese, drinks and trying something a little different in Dorset.
Sometimes you just don’t fancy a standard sit-down meal, do you? That’s exactly what happened when I went out for a friend’s birthday. We fancied doing something a little different, so Vicki and I headed to Renoufs in Wimborne for an evening of cheese, wine and gin.
Renoufs is a cheese and wine bar with locations in Westbourne, Wimborne and Lyndhurst. We chose Wimborne as it was nice and central for us both. Neither of us had been before, so once we were seated, the waitress talked us through the menus and we got stuck in.
What did we choose?
- Rosé Wine Flight – three different rosé wines
- Gin Flight – Pothecary, Monkey 47 and Edinburgh Rhubarb & Ginger
- Ultimate Board – three cheeses, three meats, grapes, pâté, olives, stuffed peppers, pickles, hummus, crackers and bread
For our Ultimate Board, we went for two of the special cheeses, Black Bomber and Red Devil, alongside Camembert. For the meats, we chose peppered salami, chorizo and prosciutto. When the board arrived, we were talked through what was what before we got stuck in. And honestly, just look at it! It arrived looking all rustic and delicious…and it certainly didn’t look like that for long.
Trying something new
Sitting down to eat something like this was actually a pretty big deal for me. Not that long before this, I wouldn’t have touched anything other than Cathedral City cheddar—and that’s still a running joke between me and one of my best friends! I’m slowly learning to try new things and not be scared of food just because I’ve never had it before. And that’s what I love about experiences like this. You try something, you might love it, you might hate it, but who cares? At least you gave it a go.
We finished our evening with a rather delicious honeycomb cheesecake, because obviously there was always room for dessert!
I really enjoyed my first visit to Renoufs and would definitely go back to try more cheeses, wines and, of course, another gin flight.
