Chocolate, scones and a Dorset cream tea with a little twist!
I love an Afternoon Tea. I love a Cream Tea. And, quite frankly, I’m always up for hunting down somewhere new to try. So, during a week off, Jackie and I headed to Swanage in search of a delicious cream tea and stumbled across a little gem hiding just behind the shops on the main high street.
A Chocolate Cream Tea?!
If you know me, you’ll know I’m never going to say no to chocolate, so when I spotted that Chococo did a Chocolate Afternoon Tea, I was sold!
The staff were lovely and welcoming, the smell of chocolate hit you as soon as you walked in, and the selection of goodies in both the shop and café looked absolutely incredible.
At the time of my visit, the Chocolate Afternoon Tea was £5.50 and included:
- A mug of house hot chocolate
- A chocolate chosen by the staff
- A chocolate chip scone
- Dulce de leche
- Clotted cream
Basically, a cream tea… but with chocolate. What’s not to love?
The Hot Chocolate
The hot chocolate was just the right balance of bitter and sweet for me — not overly sugary, which I really appreciated. There were also different chocolate options to choose from, so whether you prefer something darker or fancy trying something a little different, there was plenty to tempt you. And yes, I obviously had to finish the whole thing.
The Scone
Now onto the important bit… the scone! It arrived lovely and warm, which meant it was perfect for loading up with all the good stuff. It had just the right amount of crumble and, even better, the lovely ladies serving had already cut it for me. No worrying about accidentally ending up with one chunky half and one wafer-thin half — we’ve all been there!
Then came the dulce de leche and clotted cream. Honestly, it was a match made in heaven. Sweet, creamy, chocolatey and just the sort of treat I was hoping to find while wandering around Swanage.
Would I Go Back?
Absolutely! If you’re in Swanage and fancy a cream tea with a bit of a difference, I’d definitely recommend seeking out Chococo. And if chocolate isn’t really your thing, don’t worry — they also offer savoury afternoon tea, so there’s something for those who prefer their afternoon tea a little less sweet. For me though? Give me the chocolate, the scone and a cup of something lovely and I’m happy!
