The Stable – Poole Quay

About a month ago I was contacted by The Stable after putting up a post on Instagram about my Easter blog post special and asking if any local companies wanted to be involved. Excited was an understatement as The Stable is my favourite pizza and cider restaurant in Dorset.

Having started in Bridport, The Stable has come along way with Poole, Bournemouth and Weymouth adding to their Dorset collection and now many other sites around the UK. Their menu fits in around the local sites of each bar and restaurant, making it personal to the local area. This is why I love these guys so much. they have thought outside the box and created something that is so diverse and different to other restaurants who have done the same in the past.

Monday this week I headed to the Poole Quay branch – my favourite branch! with views over Poole harbour, some good music and a great friendly atmosphere, what’s better than having a nice pint and a pizza here?
The prices are very reasonable for freshly made, local and quality food. all ciders are based around the UK and many from Dorset, Devon and Somerset.

I opted to start my evening with a pint of Rapscallion, a cider made especially for The Stable. For me this cider is the perfect balance, I dislike dry ciders and this is more of a medium. It keeps it’s taste nicely with any food I’ve had it with. Well done on creating such a great blend!

I skipped a starter and headed straight for the main event, ordering the Studland Streaker, Potato Wedges and the monthly special – Prawn to be Wild. I’ve never had a bad pizza from here. The bases are nice and thin and crispy thanks to being made from Sour Dough. When it comes to the topping I love the fact the meats, fish or veggies take centre stage over the cheese. This is what makes a pizza for me, I want to taste the toppings and not just the cheese.
Studland Streaker – 8/10 – A nice subtle kick of Cajun spice with tender chicken and crispy bacon bits on top. A beautiful combination.
Prawn to be Wild – 10/10 – This pizza left me wanting more. This pizza definitely had a kick, which I love. I’m extremely fussy when it comes to king prawns, but they were cooked beautifully and melted in the mouth. along side the beef brisket, this pizza has to be one of the best I’ve tried so far!
Potato Wedges – 9/10 – Just like eating an oversized roast potato. Crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. What more could you want from a homemade wedge?

I did venture onto pudding and ordered the chocolate brownie. Served with caramel sauce and a choice of ice-cream or clotted cream, it’s not for the faint hearted.
Chocolate Brownie – 10/10 – a massive piece of chocolate brownie, rich and gooey. I had to take some home!

The stable is not just for those meat lovers though. They have a fantastic range of vegan and vegetarian pizza’s and also offer salads and pies. It’s also a dog friendly restaurant/bar, so perfect for those evening walks along the quay and a stop off for a pint and food.

Lastly before I finish I’d like to say a massive thank you to Bryony, Beth and Lauren for being great hosts on the night. Willing to chat, help and create a relaxed environment. I’ll definitely be visiting again soon!
