The perfect spot after those wintery walks!
I love finding new places to eat in Dorset, and the amount of times I’ve past here on a walk but never dropping in can be counted on both my fingers and my toes. This weekend I finally ventured in after being invited by The Haven House Inn to try their new autumn menu.
On walking into the pub you got this nice warm atmosphere and both fires were burning. Just perfect after a wintery walk in the cold! Myself and Jack were greated by Steve who showed us to our seats and explained that we needed to order at the bar when ready.
The pub itself is very cozy and quite small, so I can see why this gets so busy in the summer with all outside tables full. On saturday though, there was still some space inside and not many people outside and it’s easy to see how the seasons can affect these businesses.
Lets get down to the reason why we attended.

The Food
Myself and Jack shared some Whitebait as a started which came served with a salad garnish and Lemon & Dill mayo. It was beautifully cooked, and some big pieces of Whitebait which is always a pleasant surprise, however I was very confused why the heads had been cut off, I’ve always had this whole before.

For mains, I ordered the Panfried Chicken Schnitzel served with sweet potato wedges and a rocket & parmasan salad. The potato wedges were homemade and cooked perfectly. The salad went perfectly with the chicken schnitzel. The chicken Schnitzel itself, though I was slightly disappointed in. The menu had stated a Panko breadcrumb. However, it seemed to have been cooked in some sort of yorkshire pudding batter. It was very bland and a bit dry.
Jack ordered the King Prawn, Chilli & Rocket Linguini. I didn’t try any of this but it looked nice and Jack enjoyed it.

Lastly, Steve offered us a dessert on the house and we ordered a Lemon Meringue with ice cream. This was the perfect tartness to sweetness and was a nice treat to end the meal.

Would I recommend this place to others? Of course I would and I would happlily go again. They even have a cafe next door with the same menu, so if you can’t find a seat in the pub but still want to sit inside, it’s only a short walk around the corner.
